What Type Of Orchids Blooms Periodically?

Posted on March 5, 2021

What type of orchids blooms continuously? For the most part, if you go to your garden center and look at a plant orchid, there is an obvious answer that you are going to find. If the plant has flowers that stay on the same plant or have petals that stay on the same plant or have blooms that remain attached to the same orchid plant, you will see that particular type of orchid is indeed a perennial.

When talking about the orchids that bloom constantly, we will start by considering what orchids grow in nature and then use those principles when we talk about our indoor plant orchids. On the outside of the plant, you see the stem sticking out at the top (we have already determined what type of orchid that stem is). We also see that it grows horizontally, towards the sunlight. There are other facts, however, about orchids that will help us understand this principle.

As the plant grows, the roots gradually absorb the nutrients (water and sunshine) that they need in order to thrive and remain alive. The roots then send roots down to the lower portions of the plant’s stem where it joins the network of support roots. From those roots, the orchid sprouts new leaves and grows, as it was doing before. We may question, then, just how orchids actually bloom.

Well, if you know anything about orchids at all, you know that a plant orchid only blooms for a limited period of time during its lifetime. After that limited time period, orchid dies and must return to the ground where it started from. This is why we commonly refer to plants as “renewable”. If we want them to live long enough to bloom again, we must give them adequate amounts of water and sunshine.

If the plant has not been given adequate amounts of water and sunshine, it will go into a state called starvation. When orchids bloom in such a state, they will usually look very dry and lifeless. This is not good to look at, so we must do all that we can to ensure that the conditions are correct for the plant. One way to ensure that they are healthy is to determine what type of orchid is in bloom and the conditions under which it grows.

We now know what type of orchids blooms periodically. We also understand how important it is to provide the plant with the proper support. A good planter, fertilizer, potting soil and a sunny location are the basics of caring for an orchid.
