An Apartment Garden Can Offer Great Fun For All Ages

Posted on June 26, 2020

Apartment gardening is a fun and exciting way to plant food and grow vegetables. Some of the most popular ways to garden in an apartment include planting the apartment balcony, the front porch, or the back patio. While a balcony can be a great place to have a little more space for gardening, it will not be the ideal location for some types of plants.

The first thing you should do when planting on the balcony is to find a good water source. Watering the plants can be difficult if you are having to climb up several flights of stairs to get to the front door. The best solution is to find a rain barrel that can fit in the flower bed in the balcony.

The flower beds that are planted by the side of the balcony to allow the plants to grow upwards. The flowers attract bees and butterflies, which help pollinate the plants. A flowering hedge will add character to the apartment garden.

An apartment window sill garden can be a great way to see outside and enjoy your garden. Most of the plants will be smaller than those used for balcony gardening, but the benefit is that you are not left standing next to them, and so they are easier to keep in the sunlight. Plants can easily be trimmed to create the look of a larger area.

If you are having trouble finding a good place to plant your flower bed, you can place them in containers. There are many types of pots and lids available. Place some pots near the entrance to the balcony and others on either side of the balcony steps.

Another method for making the most of your flower beds is to plant a small container in the middle of each flower bed. This will make for better drainage, if you choose to use clay pots. Make sure that the container is large enough to accommodate the growing size of the plants.

Many flower beds require much less maintenance than a balcony does. A sun garden with annuals is much easier to maintain than a vegetable garden in a tiny space. Many of the annuals will only need some pruning once a year and a little bit of trimming here and there to keep them in shape.

If you are worried about the flowers running out of sunshine in your apartment, think again. Many flower beds can be made to shade and grow foliage without the flowers ever going into full sun. Using a grapevine trellis is an easy way to provide shade for a few short years.

Many container gardens can easily be moved from one place to another if needed. Other types of plants may need more effort. Foliage that needs special care may be more difficult to move, especially if you want to move it from one balcony to another.

Planting in pots can give the apartment gardener a chance to play with placement. Make sure that you buy large containers that are ready to use. Make sure that the container is not heavy to move because it will break if you try to lift it.

When it comes to pots for apartment gardening, make sure that the small container is at least 4 inches deep and that there is at least a two inch base for the soil to be located in. Smaller containers can easily break under pressure because of the weight. So choose the largest container that you can find and use it to grow the amount of plants that you are going to need for the apartment.

A big question for apartment gardening is where to plant the vegetables. Be careful about the veggies that you choose. When doing research for apartment gardening, you may find that you have more garden choices than you can use.
