Container gardening is an excellent way to use the space of a garden shed or workshop. In fact, there are more than fifty thousand people in the United States alone that growing plants in containers in their homes. But does container gardening work well when you get to the point of knowing how can one make the soil pots drain better?

Soil pots are now becoming popular as they have become more practical to use. Instead of using soil, there is no need to do it. In fact, the containers are made from porous materials that are well-known for its drainage properties. It helps a lot to know how can one make the soil pots drain better?

The first thing that one should know is that when we say ‘soil’ we mean the living soil that exists on earth. It has been around since the time of dinosaurs. It is highly recommended that the soil be watered very often especially during the rainy season. It does not mean that you should drown the plant pots and leave them on the ground, it is just water that makes the soil moist.

You can also use a liquid fertilizer according to your own taste and preference. When the fertilizer or potting mix is fully applied, the plants will gain good growing conditions. If the soil has turned into a liquid, it is time to apply the fertilizer.

Soil pots also hold water like a human body and that is because of the natural quality of the material. This means that as soon as the container gets wet, it starts draining. However, if you find it difficult to hold the drainage well, it is advisable to hire a professional potter who specializes in this field.

How can one make the soil pots drain better? The best solution is to use containers with a thick cover layer. These would help in making the rootsystem more developed and strong. It would also ensure that the roots remain healthy and strong.

It is also important to purchase the right container for container gardening. There are some varieties which would require a lot of care while watering. Make sure that you choose the right type of pot that suits your needs perfectly.

For instance, if you are looking for containers that do not provide you with too much moisture, opt for ones with thin, loose air. Also choose the ones with a wide mouth to make sure that you have enough air to grow your plants.

You also need to put in mind that planting a plant in a container on a raised bed or in a raised pot on the ground tray would require a lot of care. The soil needs to be used properly and the container used need to have sufficient depth to support the roots well.

The next thing to consider is watering the plant as this is what will help in creating a good root system. Do not put too much water because it can cause the roots to rot if you have not given enough time for the plants to adjust. Water the plants carefully every day.

If you do not water the plant thoroughly, it will not grow on a regular basis. You can put in the soil daily but remember that there is water in the container. So it is good to rotate the pot so that the soil gets dried out and replaces it with the soil.

Also, if the plant has fallen over or is standing waterlogged, it is time to remove the container and soak the soil thoroughly to restore the needed moisture. When the roots get well water, start feeding the plants using a little bit of compost. It would bring back the required water and moisture into the pot.
