How Can I Encourage My Herbs to Grow?

Posted on June 28, 2020

Herb gardening is one of the easiest and most convenient ways to introduce new plants to a home or business. If you are fresh herbs or spices lover, herb gardening will bring you closer to the taste of culinary delights and the ambiance of fresh herbs in your home.

Herb gardens are great for all different kinds of people and every kind of situation. When planning how can I encourage my herbs to grow? Here are a few ways you can get more from this relaxing hobby:

Provide Plenty of Light – A sunny location is crucial to growing your herbs properly. I’m not talking about putting on a tanning lotion or running a fan over your patio. You want your herbs to be exposed to full sunlight at all times. The optimum time to grow your herbs is any time that you have free sunshine, which can range from early morning to late evening.

Think about the difference between growing two different herbs together and planting them both indoors in separate pots. You may be surprised at what difference growing them in different locations will make.

Read the Weather – With herbs, the weather is the most important factor when it comes to how can I encourage my herbs to grow? If you live in an area that gets constant sunshine, chances are you have already figured out what growing your herbs outdoors will do for you. But what if you live in a place where the climate is generally cloudy and rainy, or maybe the winters are quite cold?

You should be able to locate a local plant nursery with a selection of all-purpose herbs. Herb gardeners will tell you that there are many different varieties of herbs to choose from that are cold hardy enough to grow outside. Not only will you have wonderful fresh herbs throughout the year, but you can grow several different herbs indoors in a very small space. You can do this by purchasing an indoor herb garden kit from your local plant nursery.

Keep Your Indoor Herb Garden Suitable for Containers – You want to be sure that your outdoor herb garden has the same requirements as your indoor herb garden. Most of your outdoor plants are going to require high moisture, sun, and shelter. You want to be certain that your indoor garden can survive in the same environment.

Check for “watering” instructions with your indoor herb garden – Most herb gardens don’t come with a watering system. While watering is fairly simple, you will need to make sure that your indoor garden does not receive an abundance of water. Some herbs may even require you to add a small amount of liquid fertilizer while watering to keep them healthy.

Learn From Other’s Grower Experiences – There are a number of great resources available to learn how to grow your herbs in your own yard. Check the internet for great articles and lists of different herbs that can be grown in your home. This will give you a wide variety of options to grow and test your growing techniques with.

Don’t let that discourage you, you don’t have to be an expert gardener to grow a natural garden. You just need to be patient and find out how can I encourage my herbs to grow.
